Toddler Bed Thoughts

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Lou has officially outgrown the crib. She climbed out a couple weeks ago, and she was very proud of it. We woke up to her standing beside our bed at 3am saying, "I climb crib!" You did, sweetie. You did.

I thought we had until Christmas, at the earliest, so I'm a little caught off guard! I originally planned to do a twin bed, and I've been collecting twin headboards over the last two years. Yes, I have three (technically four) headboards - one cane, a pair of bamboo, and one rattan. But, I have since realized that our small bedrooms mean that a twin bed would take out any play space she might have her in room. A toddler bed it is.

I love the look of the traditional Jenny Lind Toddler Bed from Land of Nod, but it's $400 and won't be available until November! Yikes.

And, of course Restoration Hardware has a stunning toddler bed, the Tate, but it's also $400. That's more than I'd like to spend for a temporary solution. But, it sure is pretty, isn't it?

I like the idea of a daybed so it can become a little sofa in her next (hopefully bigger) bedroom, or maybe a playroom down the road.

And then there's the DIY option from Ana White. Isn't it a dead ringer for the Tate bed from Restoration Hardware? Amazing! I'm so impressed by what people build through Ana White.

I have handy aspirations, but let's just say my carpentry skills are limited, at best. Plus, I don't have the tools I need, which means more cost.

So, it looks like I'm going the custom route. I have a great carpenter and I'm working on the design. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, does anyone thoughts or affordable ideas? (not Ikea because we don't live close to one, though they do have good options)

  1. To protect your baby from falling out, toddler bed bumper pad will provide a comfortable enclosure. Whenever he rolls over or moves around the bed, it will work like a safeguard. The installation won’t be complicated and time-consuming. You just need to place the bumpers under the bed sheet of your mattress. It will ensure a comfy and soothing support and feel for your baby. He won’t get hurt by the soft yet firm bumper foam that he might get from the metal bed rails.
